Summer has passed and the look back at the year of 2009 draws to a close. Through this final quarter, AceShowbiz reminisces what had happened during the holidays and when the award season takes over the movie industry once again. From the astonishing box office success of indie phenomenon “Paranormal Activity” in October to the unveiling of the much questioned War Machine of “Iron Man 2″ in November to “Up in the Air” dominating awards in December, the last three months of 2009 were filled with many stories from Hollywood’s past and future projects.

“Paranormal Activity” has become the talk of the town throughout the month of October. Being set for a release in 13 different “college towns” across the United States in late September, this independent horror film went on to get a wide release in a matter of weeks due to the overwhelming demand from hundreds of thousands of fans. But, its real surprise story came on October 11 by the end of its third week in theaters. Played in narrow release of just 160 cinemas, the movie which was made with a $11,000 budget shot to #4 at the North American box office. Two weeks later, it finally conquered the chart, denying “Saw VI” a chance to taste the top spot.

The season finale of “Making the Band 4″ will show some of the tumultuous moments including the break up of Danity Kane and the struggle of DAY26 to record their debut album. The finale will be split up into two, the first which will air tonight, April 16 and the second that airs April 23 on MTV.

According to the press release, viewers will witness the members of Danity Kane coming together for the first time since their break-up and speaking to fans. Dawn Richard and Aundrea Fimbres will find out whether they will continue as a band under Bad Boy Records when P. Diddy reveals the fate of Danity Kane.

Also, DAY26 are faced with the dilemma of moving forward even if it means that they will do so without their band mate Q. Donnie Klang who is signed as a solo act will also make an appearance, talking about the next stage of his career.

The second part of the finale which is hosted by Sway Calloway, will see DAY26 performing songs from the sophomore album.

Meanwhile, a couple of clips taken from the first part are released, displaying a dinner between Klang and DAY26 minus Q and a parasailing getaway.

In the next “Parks and Recreation”, Leslie Knope hits the street in a bid to garner votes for her park scheme. Called “Canvassing”, the April 16 episode sees Leslie lashing out at a citizen who refuses the idea of having a park because the noise level and the barbecue smell will bother her.

In the clips released for the episode, Leslie and her committee go door-to-door to build support for her park project and recruit members for an upcoming town hall meeting, but their mission doesn’t go as smoothly as Leslie hopes. Meanwhile, Tom strays from the group and uses more questionable recruiting tactics.

“Parks and Recreation” is the new comedy show by “Saturday Night Live” alumna Amy Poehler. It debuted on NBC Thursday, April 9 to a rating beyond expectation. About 6.9 million viewers tuned in according to Nielsen Media Research.

This is what is called an instant success. Susan Boyle, a 47-year-old unemployed church volunteer auditioned for U.K.’s show “Britain’s Got Talent”, received standing ovation from the audience and went on to become Internet sensation. She was then invited to sing at CBS’ “Early Show” on April 16.

Her astounding performance in the audition week of the British show prompted national curiosity that results in over six million hits on YouTube. She sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserable” and wowed the judges that include Simon Cowell. She got three ‘yes’ and advanced to the next round.

But the words of her talent traveled through the States that “The Early Show” would like her to appear on the show, singing from her kitchen in Scotland. Anchorwoman Maggie Rodriguez announced the performance on last night’s “CBS Evening News.” It will air at 7 A.M. on WKMG-Channel 6.

To support the premiere of their new dating show “The Cougar”, TV Land has launched a microsite where visitors can savor interesting features, exclusive content up to full streaming episodes. The special site is dedicated to give viewers more insight and behind the scene looks to the reality show where younger men compete to date 40-year-old woman, Stacey Anderson.

Among the features that can be enjoyed from the microsite are extensive photo gallery complete with bios of the men where fans can rate them, bonus footage taken from the guys’ own video cameras, trivia, and also weekly blog by host Vivica A. Fox and Anderson herself. There’s also celebrity gallery in tribute of the real cougars including Demi Moore, Ellen DeGeneres, Halle Berry and Barbara Hersey.

Dubbed a reality which is different from the rest, “The Cougar” premiered on April 15. The 20 contestants aging 21 to 29 can be viewed here.

After a week of hiatus, “Criminal Minds” will be back on TV next week April 22 with the episode “A Shade of Gray”. Its preview shows a father missing his son who is suddenly abducted by a stranger. Two have confessed of killing the boy but only one is telling the truth.

The BAU team profiles a series of child abductions and tries to hold a family together while investigating the disappearance of their son. The team discovers that one of the cases may not be the handiwork of the serial killer they apprehended.

“Criminal Minds” is three episodes away from the finale in May. Penelope Garcia depicter Kirsten Vangsness said to E! that the last two episodes will contain “a year-end cliffhanger” and “companion pieces”. Also, “I finally got to have some scenes with my real boyfriend on the show (Nicholas Brendon) and my real fake boyfriend, Shemar Moore, on the show,” Vangsness said.

The most popular name circulating on the net, Susan Boyle, did an interview with CBS’ “The Early Show”. Brought along through a phone interview was Patti LuPone who is the original Broadway singer for “I Dream a Dream”, the song that Boyle sang during the audition of “Britain’s Got Talent”.

LuPone recalled how she was taken aback when watching Boyle’s performance and talked a bit about the song itself. LuPone said that it is not an easy song to sing, especially that last part. Boyle was also asked about her hard childhood and her struggle with her ill mother.

Additionally, CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360″ managed to have Boyle singing behind her piano at home, again reprising “I Dream a Dream”.

Boyle becomes a star before the show even crowns her a winner. Her rendition of “I Dream a Dream” amazed the judges and the audience of “Britain’s Got Talent” that the YouTube video received million of hits, the latest being over 12 million.

Boyle is 47-year-old who made a promise to her mother on her death bed that she would give her voice a try. Prior to the audition, she was unemployed and volunteered for the church in her native Scotland. She admits to never been kissed and lives with her cat Pebbles.

Following her instant popularity, Twitter has been set on fire with comments including the ones from celebrities. Ashton Kutcher wrote, “That just made my night” while his wife Demi Moore wrote “You saw it made me teary!”. A fan has even set up a fan site Susan-Boyle.com that has received more than 7000 members.

“Bones” preview for the April 20 episode is released, and this would be the first part of the double week airing. Booth and Brennan investigate the death of a not-so-dearly departed co-worker in “Double Death of the Dearly Departed”.

When a Jeffersonian coworker from the Egyptology department dies of heart failure, the whole team attends the wake. However, upon viewing the corpse, Brennan insists the death was no accident, and enlists Booth to help her steal the body so she and Cam can get a closer look. A bizarre mystery develops surrounding the victim’s cause of death, and the suspects are as cryptic as the baffling death itself.

Meanwhile, Cam gets a lesson in parenting when she tries to get her newly adopted teenage daughter Michelle to stop smoking.

The next “Bones” will air in its usual Thursdays slot, April 23.

There will be a new face in “Nip/Tuck” who stands in as Kimber’s mother. TV Guide reported that Melanie Griffith has been cast as Brandie, the character which is described as “beautiful and considerate” and will visit her daughter from Wisconsin.

Brandie won’t come alone as she is accompanied by he “too-tan”, on and off boyfriend of six years, Les. “Queer as Folk” star Robin Thomas will fill in the role of Les, who creates a friction between him and Christian as a result of his treatment of Brandie.

TV Guide lists Griffith’s episode arch coming in “seventh and final season” which has no date yet. Meanwhile, the first part of the sixth season will begin January 2010.

Another fresh blood is also injected to the series for the sixth season’s last two episodes. George Newbern (”Providence”) will play Dr. Curtis Ryerson who is an old buddy of Sean. On the verge of receiving a prestigious award, Curtis’ profile is all Sean wants in his life.

After a long wait, “Grey’s Anatomy” will return on Thursday, April 23 and its preview has been given. Among the highlighted ones are Derek telling Meredith that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, Owen versus Alex and Izzie passing out.

As she endures aggressive treatment for her cancer, Izzie throws herself into planning Derek and Meredith’s wedding. Callie introduces Arizona as her girlfriend to her disapproving father, George excels in a trauma emergency when Alex freezes, and Owen seeks help with his PTSD.

The subject of a wedding has been circling the show for sometime with the latest rumor saying that Mer-Der’s wedding is not the only one. The crew had filmed a wedding scene in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 15 and some sources said that it was Katherine Heigl’s character Izzie that was wearing wedding dress under her coat.
